The Emirates Gastroenterology & Hepatology Society was formed in 1995 as a sub specialty of the Emirates Medical Association (EMA) with an intention of advancing the science and practice of digestive diseases through mutual professional interaction among doctors in the UAE with active interest in this field. Currently this forum has around 160 active members from various specialties like Medical and Surgical Gastroenterology, Pediatrics, Radiology, Pathology, General Medicine and Surgery.The Society meets every month with active programs covering clinical problems related to the specialty. Through the society website we aim to keep our members up to date on the latest advances and medical breakthroughs in gastroenterology and the allied specialties. There are ongoing plans to do epidemiological studies, clinical trials and basic research so as to have authentic data on the common and relevant clinical problems in the UAE. From humble beginnings this forum has grown into one of the most active professional forums in UAE maintaining a high standard.Every year, the society holds its annual international conference to bring about practitioners from around the globe to create a forum where medical experts can present an abstract on the latest trends in Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

Emirates Medical Association

In 1981, Emirates Medical Association (EMA) was established as a non-profit organization composed of health practitioners that are members of the EMA as defined by its bylaws. EMA is responsible for supervising and conducting scientific training, events and conferences as well as collaborating with health organizations. EMA launched its work through its competent supervisory, executive and specialist boards and committees. EMA is a scientific organization which has legal personality, and its Headquarter in Dubai, with one branch in Abu Dhabi.EMA aims to improve professional performance, develop and encourage skills, and enrich scientific theory and practice in the different health-fields,

  • Developing the professional health-related programs, and developing sustained medical education programs for health-related disciplines, in line with the general educational framework.
  • Coordinating with other professional health boards, authorities, associations, inside and outside the UAE.
  • Encouraging scientific research, publishing scientific papers and issuing its own journal (EMJ).
  • Participating in recommending general plans to qualify and develop human resources in health fields.
  • Organizing seminars, campaigns, workshops, and holding conferences to discuss domestic health problems and solutions.
  • Encouraging health-related scientific research and proposing research topics.
  • Approving the establishment of scientific societies for health specialties under the umbrella of EMA.
